The moral, religious, social, political, work, and family values of Europeans.
Research on European values (EVS) is an extensive, long-term, collaborative international project researching value orientations in Europe. It is conducted in European countries in 9-year cycles and examines the continuity and changes in values related to the most important areas of human life. In Slovakia, it was first conducted in 1991 as part of Czechoslovakia and in 1999 as an independent study. The joint guarantor of the project is the international methodological group at the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands. The main objective is to enable an international comparison of values and attitudes and their changes in European countries. The topics covered in the research include: work, life goals, family life, religion, current social problems, feelings of happiness, volunteer activities, social distance, interest in politics and political activity, national identity, solidarity, attitudes towards immigrants, the region, the country, the EU, and so on. The key research questions are: What pattern of values unites Europeans? Does Europe maintain the cultural unity that developed under the influence of Christianity and the Enlightenment? Do traditional values still permeate European life and culture? Are respect for human rights, the rule of law, compassion for the poor, and the value of freedom still typical of Europe? Is there a coherent alternative to Christianity and humanism? And if so, what are the implications for European unity? Stratified multistage probability sampling. The sample size was 1,500 individuals. Data collection was carried out in 300 territorial sampling units (1st stage of sampling). Nine addresses were selected in each sampling unit (second stage of selection). Interviewers visited the selected households and the contact person - respondent was the member of the household who was over 18 years of age and had a birthday coming up soon.

The variable "weight" was calculated by the EVS for all national data sets based on population information and statistics
provided by EVS countries. Weight is created based on gender and age categories (-24; 25-
34; ... ; 65-74; 75 and over). A value of "0" means that information on the year of birth was missing from the data.
The weight adjusts the socio-structural characteristics in the samples to match the gender and age distribution
of the total population. In the future, the weight variable will be further developed (taking into account at least the region). The current weight variable should be used with caution. This is particularly true when the weights are "large," i.e., outside the range of 0.50-2.00.
During data collection, the data were checked for consistency and subsequently corrected using a combination of individual and automatic corrections, including corrections based on filtering instructions. The corrections were made by the program director's team.
